Warriors Ground Eagles For Third Straight Road Win

MADISON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – Mack Knueppel (Jackson, Wis.) scored a game-high 20 points and made five three-pointers to send the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's basketball team to a 78-67 road victory over Edgewood Saturday afternoon inside the Todd Wehr Edgedome. The Warriors out-scored the Eagles 18-4 in second-chance points and 19-1 at the free-throw line.

  • Chase Nowak (Milwaukee, Wis.) started hot right out of the gates, scoring 10 of the Warriors' first 15 points, giving WLC the early 15-8 lead with 12:55 left in the opening half.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran maintained a first-half best eight-point lead at 26-18 after a Knueppel trey with 8:01 remaining in the first half.
  • The Eagles battled back to trim their deficit to just two points, 36-34, with 0:50 seconds to play on a three-point basket by Jake Negus.
  • Knueppel answered with another three of his own to give WLC the 39-34 lead heading into the half.
  • Nowak led the way in the first half with 16 points, while Knueppel added 11 of his own.
  • The Warriors shot 42.4 percent in the half and out-rebounded the Eagles 23-13, nine of which were offensive.
  • Knueppel pushed the WLC lead to double digits, 52-41, on a three-point field goal with 15:06 to go in the game.
  • Paul Koier (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) scored on a give-and-go from Randy Johnson Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis.), giving WLC a 59-46 lead, which forced Edgewood to call a timeout with 10:39 to play in the game.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran kept its lead in double-digits for the next four minutes, and the Eagles would come no closer than eight points the rest of the way.
  • The Warriors were a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line in the final 1:20 to seal the win.


  • Knueppel led all scorers with 20 points and a team-high seven rebounds, on 5-for-7 shooting from beyond the arc.
  • Nowak added 17 points and six rebounds, while Caleb Goldstein (Fond du Lac, Wis.) had 16 points and six rebounds.
  • Collin Kennedy (Holmen, Wis.) was the fourth player in double-figures with 12 points and another six rebounds.
  • WLC shot 42.4 percent (25-of-59) from the field, 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from the three-point line, and 86.4 percent (19-of-22) from the charity stripe.
  • The Warriors dominated the glass, 44-27, 13 of which were on the offensive end and created 18 second-chance points. WLC surpassed double-digit offensive rebounds for the sixth striaght game.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran committed a season-low nine turnovers for the second time this season, both coming against Edgewood.
  • After dropping five straight games in Madison, the Warriors have won three of their last four inside the Todd Wehr Edgedome.


  • Travis Kell and Arik Anderson led the Eagles with 16 points apiece. Kell also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
  • Edgewood shot 45.2 percent from the field, but attempted just four free throws (1-of-4).
  • EC's bench contributed 25 points, opposed to seven for WLC.
